Metal wall art was my first type of product, and I opened an Etsy shop to market it. My brother, a graphic designer, joined in to help with artwork. Though I do some drawing myself, the really detailed, awesome metal art in my shop is thanks to him.
Besides the original artwork, the other thing that sets our pieces apart is the finish. The most important factor for any paint or coating to adhere to steel is a clean surface. Mild steel has a dark outer layer called Mill Scale. We remove that layer by sandblasting which is a very time consuming process. But if you don’t remove it, the finish will not last.
The other difference is powder coating. Unlike paint, it is actually a dry plastic powder that is sprayed on through a gun that creates an electrostatic charge which gives the piece an even layer with very thorough coverage. The piece is then baked in an oven which turns that powder layer into a beautiful finish that is way more durable than paint.
I am often asked if our metal art can be placed outside. Between the sandblasting and the powder coating, I can safely say our pieces will last for many years outside.
If you have an idea for a metal art image, send me an Email and I’ll see if it is something we can do.
